I've decided to treat my work like a dance party 🪩
I’ve decided to treat my work world like a dance party. 🪩
This was one of my big takeaways from Happy Startup Summercamp (see: here), and more specifically experiencing my first silent disco at 7am. (As one does.)
A fellow camper was walking by on his way to the sauna. He was pretty sure the silent disco wasn’t for him.
Somehow, from opposite sides of the dance floor (aka a giant field), I managed to lure him in. No words exchanged. (Oddly, this has been one of my lifelong superpowers.)
He took a detour. He danced. He had a blast. And he still made it to the sauna.
Later @akil_hunte told me the silent disco was one of the highlights of his Summercamp experience. We still laugh about it.
Detours aren’t so bad after all :)
And sometimes when we’re willing to step onto the dance floor, we surprise ourselves.
Later, in a workshop with Gemma Gilbert, something else clicked. We can spend too much energy talking to the wrong people—or rather, the people who aren’t ready yet.
I can invite you. I can make the dance floor fun. But I can’t make you step onto it.
That part is up to you.
Which brings me to the disco balls in this post…
The blue 🪩 photos are from ABBA Mania in Paris this week. I was invited by a writer friend who came to one of my Paris book events two years ago. Another reminder that you never know who you may meet—or where it may lead—when you show up in the world. (Shout out @pipcardstarot & @zach_mizzi)
The golden 🪩 photos are from @catsjellicleball in NYC earlier this summer, which was a last minute adventure and another kind of dance floor altogether. What I loved about that show was the way we were invited into it. We weren’t just sitting back watching something happen on a stage. We were part of the energy in the room. I had a complete blast!
That’s what I’m trying to create in my work too.
You’re invited. 🎉 But you have to show up.
And when you show up, you give yourself a chance to shine. 🪩
P.S. Mapping Your Path into 2027 kicks off Oct 2. You’re invited. Welcome to the party! 🕺💃🪩🗺️
This post was adapted from two posts I shared on Instagram which you can see here and here.
This all supports my mantra: THIS SHOULD BE FUN!
