These days it's hard to run a business or do much of anything without having a web presence. There are millions of blogs, and each day the number is growing. Anne understands the online marketplace and current movements in web. Anne does not consider herself a "web designer," but rather a "designer for web." She works within existing frameworks and templates – Wordpress, Squarespace, Blogger and Cargo – to make them work for your needs. The benefit of working within these models is that they are user friendly and once the site is set-up (Anne will do the dirty work), it is easy for the client to maintain.

Web projects include:
* Shift Change – A website for a consultancy aimed at providing operational improvement and organizational change.
* These Stolen Days – The website / blog of author Nina Sovich to help promote her forthcoming book with an online presence.
* Louis Latour – This site is designed to share excerpts of noted oenophile Louis Latour’s book on the history of wine that have been translated into English.

Please contact Anne directly if you're interested in having her help you with a website or blog.

Travel is not about where you go, but how you see the world.

Prêt à Voyager (translation: "ready to travel") explores the world where design, travel, the tourist and local intersect. Started on Bastille Day 2007, Anne's goal was to explore her passions for design, travel, different cultures and communications in a creative way. The blog is part travelogue, resource guide and gallery of inspiration, which connects her to creatives around the world (and often later meets them in person).

Anne's online presence, where she has a significant following (3,850+) on Twitter, have opened many doors and possibilities for collaborations including working with Air France (TravelBook app promo video), Hotel Negresco (100th anniversary celebration, invited guest), Colonial Williamsburg (press trip), Blognhagen (design bloggers exploring Copenhagen), Orient Express (invited guest), Airbnb (curated wishlist), HomeAway, Roomorma, Plus One Berlin, Hotel Jules (Paris), Everplaces (ambassador), Vayable (ambassador) and more. In the spring of 2012 she was named a "Blog of Note" by Blogger. Additionally she was invited to speak on the topic of Blog Etiquette and How to Deal with Negative Feedback at The Hive Conference Berlin, May 2012.

Guest posts and features: Summer of a Million Visitors on Vayable, Budapest on 24 Hours Notice on Everplaces, Paris in 2,000 Images on National Geographic Intelligent Traveler, Apartment Therapy’s The Kitchn, No Country for Young Women, Design Tripper (Hotel Amour), ELLE DECOR, Anne on Tea Cup Tea, Franco File Friday on Lost in Cheeseland, Love in the City of Lights' The Dream Life of Anne Ditmeyer, Why France? on Le Fableux Destin de Brenna, National Geographic's I Heart My City [Baltimore], and Budget Travel blogger travel tips.

Accolades: See Jane Fly network, Trip Base 2010/11 Best Technical Blog, Grantourismo Travel Blogging Winner, Featured in Budget Travel.

Anne started Prêt à Voyager as a daily creative outlet to articulate and record ideas, inspiration and travel trends. Her presence in the online community has lead to great opportunities and encounters and a deep understanding of both online and print worlds.

Her writing has appeared in print in Anthology's Going Global issue with Postcards from Paris celebrating Paris-based British chef Rachel Khoo and the [then] completion of the manuscript for her latest book, The Little Paris Kitchen (Anne also made a cameo in episode 6 of her BBC show!), and a second article. 'Bright Ideas" looking at the colorful home of Fifi Mandirac, just outside of Paris. In Sept 2012 her piece "Passive Progressive" about an energy efficient home in Bessancourt, France appeared in both the print and online editions of Dwell. Fall 2012 Anne has articles in EasyJet magazine, Kinfolk (forthcoming) and Average (forthcoming). Additionally, Anne has experience producing events/stories, and has worked as an assistant to a stylist on shoots. She also writes bespoke travel guides through Fortnighter.

In the blogosphere, Anne joined Design*Sponge team as their first intern in January 2008, quickly jumping into the role of contributing editor. Over the years she's run hundreds (400+ and counting) of home tours around the world, in the highly popular "sneak peek" column. She's authored the Paris and Baltimore (with Felice Cleveland) guides for the site, created the "regional roundup" series looking at up-and-coming designers in less likely places, and run interviews with the creators of Handmade Nation, Coralie Bickford-Smith (who is responsible for the beautiful Penguin Classics covers), gone behind the scenes of Mad Men with Adam Rowe, and cooked up a video project with David Lebovitz.

She's explored Paris through Paris in 2,000 Images, a "making of" interview with Luke Shepard, creator of "Le Flaneur" for National Geographic Intelligent Traveler. More of her Paris writings can be found on Prêt à Voyager which has grown to be an extensive resource for both visiting and living in Paris. Additional series on the subject include {Un}Glamorous Paris (a look at the less than perfect sides of Paris), French Lessons (illustrated language lessons with a touch of humor), Paris travel tips, and her long running series looking at the creative ways people travel, Boarding Pass.

After having obtained two masters degrees and having spent well over half her life in school, it was only fitting for Anne to turn the tables and share what she's learned with others. She is happy to work with students, individuals, businesses and other organizations.

In the fall of 2011, Anne was the instructor for a 3-day "module" entitled "Digital Toolkit for Communications" for graduate students at the American University of Paris. Her goal was to teach basic design skills and principles to non-designers to make them more valuable in the field of communications, while giving them an appreciation for working with and collaborating with designers.

After completing her thesis, Changing Landscapes: Tourism and New Media in Morocco, she teamed up with two professors and another student to develop a new course that was to take place in Fès, Morocco during the World Sacred Music Festival. As part of the curriculum Anne would be working directly with students to create portfolio quality work (design / writing / blogging) and projects to cover the festival. This curriculum was fully developed but the course was cancelled after world events.

Anne also has experience lecturing on the graduate level and at conferences. Her talk "[Im]Material Culture & Design" showed students that design is no longer devoted solely to print, or web, but has a further reach in terms of experience design. At the Hive Conference Berlin (May 2012) Anne spoke on the subject of Blogging Etiquette and How to Deal with Negative Feedback. Anne always strives to give as many real life examples and resources as possible when she presents.

Please contact Anne directly if you're interested in inviting her to speak, teach a group or give private instruction.

In recent travel advertising, place less about a location's characteristics than about people. The human component of travel – experience, storytelling, memory – has entered tourism discourse. This thesis argues that interactive and participatory forms of travel are emerging thanks to new media, which also opens up opportunities for the entrepreneurial spirit. The thesis uses concepts of network sociality and networked publics help explain the blurring of boundaries between the real and digital, increased levels of individualization through technology, and the formation of online communities. The nature of new travel communications practices are explored via three case studies related to Morocco, representing (1) an official national sponsored campaign [the print campaign for visitmorocco.com], (2) an expatriate blog enabled by digital media [mymarrakesh.com], and (3) a site developed by digital nomads benefiting from constant mobility allowed by technology [grantourismotravels.com]. Morocco emerges as an example of a new paradigm in which there is a movement away from a one-way flow of communication to a multi-directional exchange of knowledge and ideas. A new focus in the construction of place emerges in the digitally based travel realm. Important themes include the quest for experience, the creation of the desirable place, the development of on-line dialogue, and the emergence of the entrepreneurial persona. However, not only is there change in the ways in which information flows, but also in the ways that travel and 'place' are represented, and the ways in which people travel. Tourism must be considered in a multi-disciplinary mode. The findings of the research have implications for the overarching phenomenon of 'convergence culture' as well as for emerging niches such as place branding.

In the summer of 2010 Anne teamed up with David Lebovitz for Design*Sponge to create a fabulous summer dessert and to sit down with David to learn more about his new book READY FOR DESSERT. You can read the full interview with David here (in case the video is slow to load, you can always watch it there as well). Video shot and edited by Christian Wilmes for D*S.

From having a leading role in videos to serving as the interviewer to creating her own short films, Anne has a range of experience in the realm of video in front and behind the camera, while also being well versed in current trends. She even has experience as an extra, making a cameo appearance in the opening picnic scene of Rachel Khoo's 'The Little Paris Kitchen' episode 6 on the BBC, and in the wedding scene of 'The Love Punch' starring Pierce Brosnan and Emma Thompson (release spring 2013).

Don't miss the three examples on this page.

* Cooking + interview with David Lebovitz
* Celebrating 100 Years of Le Negresco
* TravelBook for AirFrance

As an experiment in new media when Anne was invited down to Nice for the 100th anniversary celebration of Le Negresco hotel she decided to make a short film shot on her iPhone 3GS (using the 8mm app), which she then edited in Photoshop 6. The result feels like you're traveling back in time.

In January 2012 Anne was invited down to Nice by AirFrance to participate in the launch of their latest iPhone app, TravelBook. This is the promotional video featuring Anne and two other bloggers created by AirFrance.

Anne was born in Virginia and grew up in Minnesota, Kansas, and Idaho. She returned to Virginia for high school and college, and studied abroad in Paris as well as on a ship that circumnavigated the globe. Her professional life started with 5 years in Baltimore, before moving to Paris, which she has called home since 2009. Her motto is "travel is not about where you go, but how you see the world." In order to discover this she had to visit a few places in her day. Click an image to see what she's learned. (p.s. That's Anne in the lion suit and with the blue hair!)

Anne served as co-art director with Lauren O'Neill along side the See Jane Fly team to be part of the pilot edition of Wayfare Magazine which launched in February 2012. The online publication celebrates the art of the journey. The project gave Anne a rich understanding of design for print vs. web, and iPad-friendly design, while promoting travel in an accessible way.

1. Design communicates a message
2. Design is more than graphics, it can also be an experience

4. Less is more + white space is a good thing
5. Type can say a lot (chose your fonts wisely)
6. Designing for print and designing for web are two different beasts.
7. Design should be smart and make you think
8. Design makes you see the world in a new way
9. Design has the potential change the world
10. Design is a collaboration with the client
